Self-Expression: The Power Of Writing To Gain Mental Clarity and Expand Awareness
I often found myself stuck in my mind, making assumptions, trying to make decisions, imagining all options, assessing pros and cons etc. Everything was spinning in my head, leaving me undecided and torn, gradually moving from annoyance to permanent frustration.
The problem with staying in my head was that the mind races so fast that making decisions in that maze of words and thoughts would end up sounding like gibberish if I tried to verbalize it at the same speed to someone: "hsjdfsfehifhefr uehflsfubq zeiufhz fhzeoizeofq fqiuhf lqizufhqmzçf qzfihzqfoiqjzefm." How on earth could I expect to make a clear decision from my head?
Another challenge I faced was verbalizing my truth. I was always very scared of being judged or evoking strong emotions in others with my words. When attempting to explain myself in a foggy mental state, it would come out like: "no, but because, I do not know, it is just, argh…" leading to an even worse emotional state, inflated by the frustration of not expressing what was bothering me.
And then, one day, I stumbled upon Journaling, and everything started to become clearer and better. I had never really had a journal before, but I thought, even the Queen had one, so why not give it a try?
JOURNALING TO UNDERSTAND WHO I AM AND WHAT I NEED
The process of writing down each word seemed to have a powerful impact on slowing down the speed of my mind and filtering my thoughts, retaining only the purest one—the thought that truly knew how to guide me, the voice of wisdom. During this process, I felt free to say whatever came to my mind, without the fear of judgment from others.
So what does journaling consist of?
I use different techniques to find answers:
Letters to my wiser self or the Universe (or whoever you prefer): Whenever I find myself in emotional pain, unable to figure out what to do or why I react a certain way, I take my pen and write to my wiser self for guidance. Without judgment, I let the words flow naturally, often receiving the wisest advice I could have imagined. It starts like: Dear Universe, I am upset by… Why is it so? … could you help me? And I enter in a dialogue with myself but for once, I managed to be my own guide, or coach, as if I was giving advice to a dear friend, with a lot of compassion.
The 3-2-1 shadow process: Similar to writing to my wiser self, this technique involves engaging in a conversation with the exact situation or emotion that bothers me. It often helps me see much clearer, unveiling limited beliefs, revealing my true needs, and ultimately bringing me closer to my authentic self.
Journaling allows me to untangle the knots of unresolved emotions and thoughts that weigh on my consciousness. As the ink flows, so do the weight of my struggles, making space for growth and transformation — ready to embark on a journey of becoming.
WRITING TO COMPREHEND
Gradually, journaling intuitively evolved into writing. At times, I notice I am about to understand something, but it remains suspended in the air, preventing me from fully grasping the sense of my perception. Information is subtle, temporary, and unsettled in my waking state of consciousness. I need words to fully assimilate it, allowing it to settle within me. This is how I started writing the chronicles of my personal transformation, to fully integrate and comprehend each step, and be able to share with others. Every time I write, I feel warmth between the heart and the throat, everything becomes clearer and the perception becomes integration.
When I express my truth, my heart lights up and my consciousness expands.
Through writing, I am becoming.
